End of the year!

Pyramid Plunder is like 99.99999999999% done. All of the sprites are done, everything's in place. All that needs done is some play-testing and board-fixing.

and then the inevitable sound effect tweaking that I'm going to end up doing over and over because I'm OCD.

In other news:
--------------
More Insanity X tracks are done, and alot of codestuff happened. I may post a video soon.

I tweaked the graphics for a secret game. It isn't a TOTAL secret, but secret enough!

Jungle Hunt is coming along.

I suck at art.

Some ideas for Retrocade are bouncing around that may change the project a bit. I will keep you all posted.

11/4/2010

Shiiiiiit people.

Life has been semi-disastrous, but do not fret.

News from the Aetherbyte front:

---loldrama. What else is new.
---I believe Keranu of Frozen Utopia is doing spritework for Retrocade. So now none of my horrible art is involved! WOO.
---We're planning stuff for the May CCAG show already
---Pyramid Plunder is AFAIK, 99.9% done. The .1% remaining is the sprites from Keranu, and any stuff that jumps out as awful during playtesting.
---With PP done more or less, Defender is alright. Bashing around some new ideas for it, and trying to convince a special someone to do the background work.
---Jungle Hunt. Yeah. Some stuff is going on. ... yeah.

so basically, sorry for the delay in updates. We're still here. We're still going, and we're not stopping.

UPDATES! A month or two late!

Man! Stuffs getting crazy. Here's whats going on.

1) Pyramid Plunder is coming to the point where it literally is just a matter of me finishing music, tweaking sprites until they look good, and then playtesting it...

so the demo is of course going to be delayed. I won't even promise a date, but the game itself is to the point where it is just fine tuning the polish, making sure its all in a good playable state, and then going WOO, DONE.

2) Defender clone stuff and Jungle Hunt stuff have occured.

3) Theres another secret coming, and its not that MSX2 game I put on hold since I got a real job. :D

End of July Updates!

The counter offensive went well. Deserving people got Insanity for the proper price...!

The planned demo is not out yet, but do not fear. It isn't because of abandonment or problems!

Lord_Cack, our art-dude, supplied another tileset, and is nearing another completed one, so we're holding out to see how much completed artwork can get into the demo... :)

The levels look great now. Top notch :D

end of june updates!

Oisjfsoidfjoij!

So, the new job I have has given me some jet-lag. I'm not used to the whole being up in the morning thing :D.

So, the Pyramid Plunder demo is a bit delayed.

There are no technical difficulties, and the project is not abandoned! Do not worry.

I have two nice, new graphical tilesets thanks to Lord_Cack (Of Frozen Utopia/Mysterious Song fame). There are more tilesets to come from him, since Pyramid Plunder will have 6 different levels, each containing 5+ maps to clear.

Bring on the variety!

Anyway, I have been working on making mazes with the new tileset, and do hope/plan/intend/almost guarantee that they will be ready and a demo will be out this week for everyone....

complete with some sfx + music (using Squirrel), and these awesome new tiles.

:D

The sfx need some work, but they're not TOO bad. They're placeholder. I'm picky about sound effects and would rather save the hours of sound effect tweaking for the very end, haha.

peace!

Latest news

I started my new job this week, and the change of sleep schedule has given me some jetlag. :D

It is going away now though.

In Retrocade news (by the way, Retrocade is our new arcade compilation for PCE CD):

1) We now have a background tile artist cooking up some very nice stuff for Pyramid Plunder.

2) The rest of Pyramid Plunder is falling into place nicely.

3) a playable demo (8 maps, w/ sound effects and music) is being put together and SHOULD be made available in the next week or so.

I would have liked to have a full demo out sooner, but hey! New tile artist! Now the game will look even better! That is worth the delay for sure. :D

School's Out, stuffs happening!

I hope everyone watched the CCAG show demo to at least see some of what's going on with the PC Engine/Turbo Grafx-16 scene.

Here's whats new:

1) I started an MSX2 game w/ a deadline of June 31st. I will probably miss the deadline. But that's OK.

2) We have Pyramid Plunder at the point where it's mostly polish/tweaking/fiddling around. It just needs some more music, and sound new background graphics. It's got more features than intended, which isn't bad!

3) Defender's basic screen layout (w/ Dead Moonish parallax) is setup. Now it just needs artwork to be put into effect. Damn art!

4) Some new, and awesome ideas were suggested and talked about for Joustaroo. It's going to be awesome.

That's all for now! Be sure to watch for updates. Hopefully in the near week or two, there will be new background tiles for Pyramid Plunder, so we can put up some screenshots and a demo :D

Pre-Show Updates

The preliminary graphics for Pyramid Plunder are in order, and need touch-ups where needed. They are nice enough that they look great for the upcoming show.

Squirrel "2.2" Is on it's way. The giant manual is going to be revamped/updated first, and some testing is going on. It will also come with a manual explaining the BIOS routines and how to use them.

It will also come with a fairly complete HuCard player. It is not exactly the same, yet (some features need to be done), but it is pretty damn close!

It will be placed on the backburner for now, as we focus on some of the Retrocade games instead.

ATTENTION: Squirrel musicians using Windows VISTA and Windows 7!!!!!

You may experience strange problems when compiling songs. This is because the notepad.exe included with both those OSes, is goofy.

A safe alternative is Notepad++, and is actually, in all honesty, a better choice.

It is what is used in the DOOM Demonstration video. You have alot more editing options, some neat tricks, multiple files at once, etc.....

and best of all, its FREE, and saves your files in the proper plaintext mode !!!

Squirrel Fix

There was a bug I found. More like an oversight. You were unable to define various modes in Channel 0 (setup channel).

This was screwing up the use of macros that toggle between modes. Now its fixed. You can flip between Modes 0,1 and 2 in channel 0 macros. Just dont use those macros anywhere but channel 5 or 6.... since 1-4 cant produce noise.

Now, you can experiment with drum patterns alot more.

just grab the archive again, and it will have the updated compiler (mml2pce.exe).

Re-wording a bit of the manual for squirrel to clear up some things and possibly explain them altogether. :D

expect it sometime tonight. Should not take too long.

The forum is back up, and ready for pce/msx/mml/whatever talk!
Squirrel 2 is out, and has already been used by Goban of the PCE community!

UPDATES!

Here is what is currently going on in the land of Aetherbyte:

1) Squirrel MML compiler/player is turning out goodlike.
see demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_fJZsfQ7gs

It will be a nice easy way for people to create chiptunes for the PCE.

2) The Retrocade games are getting there! The list is still the same as far as what will appear on the CD, and I myself am currently working on designing exactly how I want Joustaroo to work out :D

3) We will be at the CCAG show in May. More info at www.ccagshow.com! We will have copies of Insanity , demos running of current game projects, and demos of the music I have made with Squirrel.

4) The end!
